Safe to say that brand Masaba has carved a niche all for itself, being loved and adored by the modern Indian woman. The success of the label is owed in a large way to Masaba (the person) who has gleaned a huge fan following herself. All of the ‘fan-girling’ that was going on at the launch of the Chennai store, was proof of that. Without trying to impress or prove a point, the talented designer does exactly that. A light easy breezy take on Indian fashion, with her signature quirk factor, and a price tag that doesn’t break the bank.

Masaba was here, live and in the flesh, smiling encouragingly around as everyone checked out the new space. Once everyone got past their initial tentativeness, it was conversations and pictures galore. In a quick chat the designer admitted to still getting to know and understand Chennai and it’s sensibilities, as well as navigating the crazy world of social media. “I love giving people a glimpse into what it takes to run a business and also do what I’m doing, while keeping it real” she said after a little thought.

So here are a few of my favourite pieces.

I’m a huge fan of the Kimono style jackets and really feel they’re a piece of clothing that is SO suited for India. The ‘cover up’ is all-essential and has now slowly moved up the ranks of wardrobe hierarchy. They’re available in a bunch of fun prints and you can wear them casually or create a fusion look for a Sangeet or Mehendi.

A big draw of course was her beautiful (and rather affordable) bridal range, which I couldn’t resist trying on. Masaba retains her signature aesthetic while creating a line that a fun young bride would love. Not to mention that fact that they would make for some killer pictures!

While I went for a candyfloss pink and mint combo, model Ayisha chose a subtle gold on off-white, beautiful in its simplicity. As with most Indian outfits you can play around with the draping of the dupatta to create completely different looks.

And finally, the simple dress. This is one of those pieces that can not only work for a multitude of events but on a multitude of women as well. And of course if red is not your colour they also have it in an icy Tiffany blue

Safe to say that we are thrilled that Masaba is now in Chennai. While I love my online shopping as much as the next millennial, you can’t deny the convenience of an actual store. And we’re certainly pleased with the fact that not only was the collection everything we had hoped for, but the person as well.
