I mentioned in my New Years column, that just five days into 2018 and social media was flooded with images of people ‘bettering’ themselves in one way or another. Pictures of running shoes with an assortment of motivational hastags, enough to make us put the last piece of Christmas cake down and at least attempt to go for a walk.

So I decided why not start the year with a post on these cool new shoes that I’ve been introduced to – PUMA’s NETFITs, that are awesome for a number of reasons. These are mainly marketed as ‘running’ shoes and since I’m not much of a runner myself (falling more into the light walker category), I’ll most likely use them as casual sneakers, or for when I’m travelling, and doing a bit of exploring on foot. For me the best way to test how comfortable a pair of shoes are, is to wear them the whole day, and that’s exactly what I did.

What makes this specific shoe so popular is the multiple lacing option- 5 to be exact , depending on the shape of your feet and/or your running needs. They can be done up in five different ways: Standard Lacing, Wide Foot lacing, Narrow Foot lacing, Stability lacing and Heel Support lacing. I decided to start with the Standard lacing (pictured below) and go from there.

Firstly I loved how the shoes look, giving you the comfort of a solid pair of sneakers, without looking bulky. They fit great, with a sock-like feel, and are super light as well. You also have colour options with the laces and which one of us ladies doesn’t enjoy that!

Now getting into the ‘unique needs’ part. I have narrow feet and often have to fiddle around with insoles and various other shoe accessories to get the perfect fit. And at the same time I know a lot of people with wide feet who complain about how tough it is to find a comfortable pair of shoes, often going a size up, just so their feet don’t die a slow death. So this was an aspect I was quite excited about. For the second half of the day I switched out the dark blue for a bright blue pair of laces and with the help of the instruction diagram (found both on the box and online) went for the ‘narrow’ lacing style.Safe to say I not only loved how the contrasting laces looked, but the shoes fit even better! All in all its definitely a thumbs up from me on the Netfits, although for a more technical review I’ll be happy to point you in the direction of a few serious fitness experts. But for now, if your looking for a pair of running (walking) shoes, these are a great option. And here’s to a fitter 2018!
