One of the worst things is starting to love a trend just as it’s on the way out. And I know you ladies know what I’m talking about. Whether it’s red lipstick or peplum dresses or chokers, I always find myself thinking ‘Damn I should’ve given it a shot sooner’. So this is one of those rare occasions where I found myself ahead of the so-called trend, and the item in question is the Kimono Jacket. I discovered this fabulous piece of clothing in a teeny tiny store whilst on my honeymoon in Rome, and little did I know that two years later, pretty much every brand out there would be producing their own version of it. My love for it has only deepened and grown, resulting in me dedicating an entire post to it.

It’s called different things by different people- a jacket, a shrug, a cover-up, because of how seamlessly it floats across various categories of clothing and seasons. Long, short, see-through, tasseled, embellished, you name it, it exists. And once I discovered just how all-purpose it is, I was hooked. While I would’ve loved to root through my closet and pull out the dozen variations I’ve got, I thought that might be a little excessive and instead enlisted the help of my sister Rochelle to show off two different looks.

Now the both of us have two very different style senses and I convinced the usually basic Rochelle to dress up her outfit, a crop top and skirt combo (House of Chase), with this jacket  (Asat by Pritha Kishor), and the look is transformed.

I wanted to showcase a more ‘day’ look and went simple with distressed denims and a tank. I chose one of my absolute favourite pieces, The Bird Factory Jacket by The Quirk Box, which comprises two of my favourite elements, bright colours and a fabric that can withstand the Chennai heat.

And we as make our way from a rather brief winter into what looks like another blazing summer, we can live happily in the knowledge that the Kimono Jacket will make the transition with us.
